TCSYO Concerto Competition
Eligibility
Open to current members of Symphonic Orchestra only.
Previous winners of the Concerto Competition are ineligible to participate.
The duration of the concerto must be 10 minutes or less. If the concerto is longer than 10 minutes, cuts must be provided and clearly marked in the scores given to the judges or you will be disqualified.
Guidelines
The competition consists of a Preliminary Round and a Final Round.
Preliminary Round: Consists of adjudicated evaluations of recorded performances – no piano accompaniment is allowed in the recording. Candidates are strongly encouraged to check with Mrs. Rupert before applying to make sure we can procure orchestra parts should they win. Contestants must audition on the concerto and movement they would like to perform with Symphonic Orchestra. Once an application is submitted, changes in repertoire will not be allowed.
Final Round: This will take place at Lake Braddock Secondary School on February 2, 2026 starting at 5:30pm. A limited number of candidates will be selected to perform in-person for a jury of judges. Piano accompaniment is highly recommended but not required. Please bring three (3) copies of your concerto for the judges, including clearly marked cuts if the duration is longer than the allotted 10 minutes. Concerto must be memorized for the Final Round.
